Great location! So easy to get everywhere! Walking distance to king street which is FULL of AMAZING bars and restaurants! Quaint little apartment but exactly what we needed as we were not there very often. Little convenient store right down the block for the essentials. Great coffee shops within the block. Felt very safe and comfortable. Can’t wait to go back as we truly enjoyed our time in charleston!!!

Amazing location and perfect for a short term getaway. Very close proximity to restaurants, nightlife and shopping. Four stars because of a quite uncomfortable bed, but otherwise an incredible value in the Charleston area!

Great location with a coffee shop/bakery next door and a convenience store on the next block. Easy walk to King Street too. Unit A is a first floor unit and we had a large group of girls staying above us on the second floor so the noise was a little rough at 3am but we made the best of it. It’s a beautiful restored old home so paper thin walls come with the territory. We came for the high water music festival which was about a 10 minute/$20 Uber ride away and perfect for us.

They did an amazing job making a super tiny space very functional and cute, and the location is great. Small details were overlooked, which were mildly annoying (difficulty plugging in the bedside lamp, there was a weird odor in the house, etc.). Overall, it was good for what we were looking for — a clean, cute, and centrally located spot for our weekend getaway!

Great spot! Close enough to to king street to walk easily, but far enough to not get bombarded by late night loudness. Clean and tidy with all the space and amenities you need for a longer stay if needed

This place was perfect for my husband and I’s trip to explore Charleston! We just needed a place to sleep and this small house provided just that. We loved being within five minutes of King Street and within walking distance of the French Quarter, waterfront area and Rainbow Row. Compared to other places in downtown, mostly hotels and B&Bs, this place was a steal! The only thing we wish we could have done was try the Wildflour Bakery just outside our parking lot. There just wasn’t enough time in this active city and not enough space in our full stomachs. We’d definitely stay at this place again!

It was the perfect place for us to stay 3 nights, while exploring Charleston. Such a quaint neighborhood, with a wonderful bakery right around the corner. We walked all over, and always felt safe. We will definitely recommend to others.

The place is centrally located, walking distance to King St, restaurants and shops. Easy access to the highway as well. The descriptions and pictures were accurate. The only minor thing is the noise, the noise from the street as well as upstairs can sometimes be loud. Other than that, it was a nice place away from home.

Very walkable to most of downtown Charleston. Loved having Wildflour Pastry next door for coffee! Since this is a professionally managed Airbnb and the same folks have several others in adjacent buildings, it feels more hotel-y than staying in someone’s home. Cozy, comfortable spot for a few days in Charleston.

Historic Smalls Alley is the place to stay when in Charleston. The location to King St was great and we couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay. It was close to everything but it was also very quiet and we didn’t hear anything. We loved being able to walk to most of the places we wanted to explore. The apartment was so quaint and clean and was perfect for 2 people to stay! Thank you so very much for everything! What great hosts!

This place was PERFECT! My girlfriend and I were in town for a wedding and made a long weekend out of it. Mark’s place was in an ideal location. 3 blocks from King street and all of the restaurants, bars, and shops. Uber’s to anywhere in the city from here we’re at most $8 so pretty ideal. Parking was out back and we just parked the car and left it all three days with no problem. And the cafe that’s literally next door is amazing (Wildflour Pastry). All around great place and great location.

Nice place and was clean. Studio apartment. Bed was very comfortable. It is a few blocks off King Street which was great for us. Just far enough away. The local neighborhood has a number of small restaurants and bars. The owner will supply you with a listing and a short review of each. We did not cook, but the kitchen was stocked with the basic cookware, four top stove and refrigerator. Off street parking was provided.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The location is great; you’re walking, biking, or a short Uber distance to any place in downtown. The apartment was clean, quiet, and bright with the skylight. As a taller person, I appreciated the shower height. Check in and out were easy and convenient.

The location exceeded my expectations! My boyfriend and I were in town for a long weekend and neither of us had been before. Lots of great restaurants nearby, and the bake shop on the front of the next door property has famous sticky buns on sundays-can’t recommend those enough. Great small space if you are looking for just a bit more than a simple hotel room!

Our stay was great. Check in and check out was a breeze. They were quick to respond with any questions or concerns we had. Place was nice and clean when we arrived. Parking is a bit tight (which they did mention prior to booking) but as long as you don’t have an extra wide or long vehicle it is not a problem. Walkable to almost everything. Tons of restaurants/shops in the immediate area. Would definitely recommend.

Great location. Walkable to all sites, restaurants and waterfront. Cute bakery right next-door with lots of selections. The apartment was very clean with comfortable bed and bedding. Andrew was very responsive and helpful in his communication. The rental is near a lot of students apartments. It didn’t bother us, but there were several groups that walked by in the early hours that were quite loud. The bedroom is not on the street.

Great location… easy walk to most of the city….Uber to the far end of the city only $7.00 Apartment was very clean and we felt very safe in the apartment and walking downtown from the apartment. Kitchen a little sparse, plenty of dishes and pots but no spices, etc.. Parking on site never moved the car after we arrived.

Very cute place in an up-and-coming neighborhood. About a mile from the heart of the historic district, so a good location if you don’t mind walking a little. And upper King Street is on the way to the main, touristy part of the historic district, and there are lots of cute shops and restaurants there. The room was quiet and the bed was very comfortable (loved the bed, slept very well). It was also very close (within a quarter mile) of some good restaurants, including Hominy Grill. I’d definitely stay at Small’s Alley again. Thanks, Mark!

The property is located in a converted large house. It has a Beautifully renovated bathroom and kitchen. It is in an interesting part of the city, undergoing much renovation. There are numerous eateries and bakeries in this area. It is very close to 2 free “trolley” which can take you all over the city if you don’t want to walk. Once we parked our car in the space provided, we didn’t have to use it for the whole week, except to visit a nearby beach.

In general, liked the place—rented it to explore Charleston itself. The mattress is old and needs to be replaced (my husband and I didn’t get a lot of sleep) and have mentioned this to the owner. There was no toilet paper when we arrived—weren’t expecting to have to run out and find some at midnight when we arrived. The bathroom sink was slow to drain—we brought this to Mark’s attention and he addressed it within the day. Super appreciative of that. The place was a 30 minute walk from most things we wanted to do, which we enjoyed. Thank you for having us.

Perfect location. You’re steps away from Wild Flour Bakery and only a short walk to Hominy Grill, Xiao Bao Biscuit and many other great restaurants. The little place is just right for two people. Plenty of parking if you have a car but you could walk everywhere if you don’t. Very clean and the host was communicative. We will definitely return when we come back to Charleston.

We were 3 couples staying at this lovely Victorian home in Charleston which gave us the perfect location to walk and see all the sites and visit amazing restaurants and local bars. Walking and driving this area is very easy. The porch on this home gave us the perfect morning and evening location to enjoy the neighborhood and friendly people. The home had ample space for 6 people. Mark responds within minutes when you have questions which is very helpful. Check in and check out are a breeze. Thanks Mark for helping us have an awesome vacation in a wonderful area!

Great little apartment with everything 2 people need for a vacation. Apartment located a couple blocks from upper King street but very walkable location. We had a wonderful weekend here. Market street and the waterfront were about a 30 minute walk from this location. We walked and took Uber during our stay. The home was clean and had everything we needed. Parking was easy and we were very happy with our stay. I would definitely stay here again. Overall had a very nice stay at 79B! Good location with a lot of great restaurants and two delicious bakeries nearby! Also very convenient to nightlife on King Street but far enough away to avoid any late night noise. Had a few minor issues with chirping smoke detector (battery needed to be replaced) and drain/spin cycle on washing machine but both were addressed quickly and efficiently by Andrew, who was a pleasure to deal with. Self check in and check out were easy and more convenient than having to meet up with someone to get key, etc. Would stay here again on future trips to one of my favorite cities!!

Marks place in charleston was great. A short walk to King St and the bakery underneath was amazing for coffee and donuts in the morning. The only downside is the wifi didn’t work – we couldn’t even find the network. Otherwise the place was perfect to stay during a friends wedding and slept 6 of us comfortably.

Good little place, everything worked properly and we were pretty comfortable and felt safe. Super close to king st and we walked almost everywhere! There is a cute little bakery right next door and they have yummy pastries and muffins. Only thing that could be better is the mattress…should be replaced imo, it slopes in toward the middle and is super squeaky. We had one evening where we just hung out on the cushy couch and watched movies and ate snacks and we were comfy and happy. No bugs and good air conditioning! Also love all the lush plants and landscaping. So pretty! All in all we had a great time and Mark and Andrew were super accommodating with early/late check in/out and are very quick to answer questions. Would recommend!

Just as expected. Reviews are spot on. A few blocks from King St, so that was nice. Took Lyft around town to avoid drinking and driving (and parking). We had a lot of rain during our stay and while the streets flooded, the driveway stayed above the water. No car damage! While we never saw Mark in person, he was very responsive to our questions and requests. One little tip if you are a fan of Top Chef. Emily from the Charleston season has a little bar/restaurant down the street called Warehouse. You can pop into the kitchen and say hi. Very friendly.

What a find! We really enjoyed our stay here. Room was bigger than expected which was a nice surprise. The kitchen was well stocked and once we figured out the air conditioner we were golden! Location was perfect! So much around and three grocery stores all in walking distance. Really enjoyed the bakery being basically attached! We brought our Boston Terrier and he loved the homemade dog biscuits from Wildflour Pastry. We will definitely stay here again and I recommend you do the same

We were originally booked into a small cottage but there was an issue with the plumbing. Mark was very quick to respond. He arranged for us to stay in another apartment in the same neighborhood. The house was absolutely perfect. Clean, centrally located, and just as advertised. Historic Smalls Ally is such a neat area of Spring St. and it’s walking distance from great food, shopping, and historic downtown Charleston. The house was clean and our stay was great! We loved the self checkin/checkout procedure. Be sure to bring your own towels and washclothes though as only one of each is provided per guest for the entire stay regardless of your visit length. Not a big deal but something you definitely want to know before taking a shower. 😉

It was pretty good. The house is on the outskirts of the nice part of town. You have to walk a quarter mile to get into the nicer parts of Charleston, but if you’re in decent shape you can walk everywhere from here. Not a bad deal overall…

We had a lovely time at Smalls Alley! The room was perfect for two people, and comfortable, particularly the much needed air-conditioning. The location was peaceful, and a great starting point for exploring the city without being in the heart of the hustle and bustle of downtown. We would definitely recommend staying here.

Nate B
Great place for a long weekend! Looking forward to coming back!

July 2017

Ben H
Very pleasant spot close to King St restaurants. Place was clean and spacious. And QUIET. I love the quiet. The washer and dryer is REALLY helpful for long trips. Easy entry. Didn’t see Mark at all actually. Didn’t need to. He was very communicative and helpful.Overall a very pleasant stay. Folly Beach is particularly good.

July 2017

Victor M
Great home within walking distance of King St. self check-ins definitely make life easier. Daybed slides out to provide more sleeping space. Plenty of parking if you pay for it. Overall a pleasant experience, highly recommended.

July 2017

John H
We enjoyed our stay at Mark’s cottage; it is located very centrally to everything you’d want to see and do in Charleston. The place is small but very comfortable for two people. Quaint space in the garden to relax outside. Parking is not an issue with the included parking pass for the private parking area adjacent to the cottage. The cottage itself is exceptionally clean and well kept. We biked everywhere we wanted to go from the cottage.

Jonathan M
Outstanding place in a prime location. Very charming and gave us easy access to walk everywhere we wanted. I highly recommend this place and will look to stay here again during my future visits to Charleston.

June 2017

John M
This place was a little smaller than I anticipated. This would not be an issue if only one person was staying. It was a little cramped for two people. The bed wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t great either. The sink was incredibly small. Wifi wasn’t very good and the cable television liked to cut in and out frequently.

Richard M
We enjoyed a wonderful weekend in this cozy suite in a charming, quiet spot. We loved the location, with off street parking, next to a wonderful bakery and around the corner from some of our favorite little restaurants. Mark was a great host & very responsive to any questions. I hope we’ll have the opportunity to return again soon!

Erin Nylen
This place is a gem. The surrounding neighborhood is lovely and there’s a yummy bakery literally next door where we stopped for iced coffee every morning. There are some fantastic restaurants and bars only a few blocks away. It is a bit of a longer hike to the sights way downtown but we enjoyed the walk and it’s easy to grab a quick uber or pedi cab ride back if you’re tired. The apartment itself was clean and spacious, and the bed was super comfortable! Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

June 2017

Jessie F
We loved the spacious, clean, equipped house! The house has those three beds plus a daybed and futton which is nice to remember in case we have a larger group next time. The place is incredibly central and walkable to downtown – walked all over. Thank you again!

June 2017

Brittany S
I highly recommended this apartment. It was so perfect for 2 with and beats a hotel by far! The bed was so comfy, super clean and everything is new! I will stay here every time I visit Charleston!

June 2017

Kristen G
Great spot on the Peninsula! Small, cozy and perfect for two! Just two blocks from King St and all the fun! Highly recommend.

June 2017

Madison D
Great location and such an adorable little place.

June 2017

Kyle B
My husband and I booked this room last minute when we arrived in Charleston and were pleasantly surprised. We loved the room – it was very clean, up to date, we even loved the bed. It’s a great space and had everything we needed. The area was very quiet and within walking distance of everything you could need or want to do. We couldn’t have had a better experience and on our next trip to Charleston will book this apartment again. Thanks!!!

June 2017

Ellyn M
Stayed with 6 friends for the weekend. Great location!

June 2017

David B
Great place to stay for a long weekend. Excellent location, within walking distance of some good restaurants and a bakery. Large parking area. Very clean apartment with all the amenities necessary. Bed needs to be replaced, sags too much in the middle. Very quaint area and couldn’t have chosen a better place to stay. Definitely recommend it if your in Charleston for a few days.

June 2017

Margaret S
Very small and basic space but well located to access the Upper King area and even get downtown if you’re up for a walk. Clean and quaint with the essentials covered, good for a crash pad between sight seeing.

June 2017

Nicholas J
Cool place

June 2017

Kara M
This was a great place to stay!

June 2017

Tammy M
Place was great, exactly as pictured. Great location, walking distance from King St., in a quiet neighborhood. Definitely recommend trying a few of the places in the Local’s Guide! Enjoyed the off street parking. Really make sure to familiarize yourself with the area ahead of time because it is hard to find in the dark.

June 2017

Reed D
Very spacious, great location, very comfortable beds! Host was great to work with. Pastries were amazing on the first floor. All in all place was great roof was great

June 2017

Scott B
Great little place. Good value for the money. Short walk to King St to hit restaurants and bars. Parking is tight right next to unit, but a bigger lot is just feet away. I ended up parking there the rest of the trip. Easy in and out.

June 2017

Jamie D
This apartment is within walking distance of multiple shops and restaurants! The neighborhood is quiet and felt very safe. The apartment is very small but perfect for a couple and we even had our yorkie with us.

June 2017

Leigh Ellen G
Perfect Charleston pied-a-terre for someone traveling solo.

June 2017

Colleen S
Mark’s place was super cute, comfortable and clean. It’s in a great and up-and-coming area in North Charleston. We’d stay again.

June 2017

Kendall G
We really enjoyed our stay at 75C. The location was perfect near several great restaurants and cafes (including right out front) and was an easy walk down to King street. The place was a perfect size for two in a great historic building. Our host was very helpful, incredibly responsive and there if anything was needed. We’d definitely stay again!

June 2017

Lauren E
Place was really cute! Easy access to fun bars and restaurants! Place was clean. Parking and check in were very simple and easy.

June 2017

Greg H
Our stay at Mark’s place was as we expected it to be. The apartment is on the smaller side, but had everything we needed for our 4 day stay. The parking/driveway is a bit tight, but we managed it alright with our SUV. We had our dog with us in the apartment, which was a great option. The location was good, not too noisy since it was tucked away from the roads a bit, but it was still within long walking distance to downtown and restaurants. The check-in and check-out process was pretty easy, and it was nice to be able to self-checkin so that we could get to the apartment whenever we wanted to on our arrival day. There was another couple in the upstairs apartment and we were able to hear some noise from them, but it wasn’t overwhelming or too loud. Just expect that there may be people upstairs during your stay.

McKinley Frey A
Great location. Super convenient and easy check in. Comfortable beds and good amenities.

May 2017

Beth M
You will love it!! Clean, bright, near pretty much everything.

May 2017

Ashley A
Charleston was amazing and Mark’s place was beyond perfect. Location made it easy to walk to restaurants, nightlife, shopping, etc but was still tucked away enough to be very quiet and safe. We WILL be back and would stay here again in a heartbeat.

May 2017

Thuat T
A nice unit with parking included. It’s walk-able to many highly rated restaurants. We took an Uber to anything below Calhoun, which ranged from $6-10. The price of the unit makes up for not being in the heart of downtown. The place was clean, open, had wifi and TV, and the a/c worked great (thank goodness!).

May 2017

Laura J
This apartment was in an excellent location. We were able to walk to many places. The bakery next-door is a must visit! Check-in and out were extremely convenient and easy. The only thing we did not receive was a parking permit, but we were able to park in the lot without any issues. The neighborhood was quiet. We had an excellent stay and would love to return!

May 2017

Justin G
The location and unit were ideal for a weekend in Charleston. The cottage is within walking distance to a lot of great restaurants and bars. Would definitely stay again if we head to Charleston

May 2017

Tim G
We loved our stay here, the place was super clean and nice. There is even a pastry shop next door which was awesome! Only downside is the pastry shop courtyard is right outside the bedroom window and bathroom window so it tends to be noisy on sat and sunday mornings. We walked everywhere from here and had a great time.

May 2017

Regina S
We had a great stay! The location was in a quiet neighborhood, a mix of residential and business and walking distance from several good places to eat. We loved the little Wildflower Bakery around the corner for breakfast items!! The apartment was newly decorated and very clean. The bed was super comfortable with fabulous linens (a pet issue for me). The only problem we had was in parking our mid-large SUV in the space in front of 65 Karpeles. Actually, not parking, but the turning around. Not a whole lot you can do about that! The check-in info did not say we could park anywhere in a Smalls Alley so we parked the car in front of the unit and rarely moved it ….which suited us anyway. So, NO problem! It might be for someone else. We would definitely recommend this lovely apartment to anyone as long as you have no problems climbing steps! We saw that activity as exercise to compensate for all the great food we were eating!

May 2017

Michele K
Nice place. Very quiet neighborhood. Caution when leaving as there is a sidewalk with pedestrians and bikers which can be hard to see!

May 2017

Jeff O
Mark’s place was exactly what we were looking for — an affordable and comfortable place to crash in one of the best parts of Charleston. Everything is either a short walk or cheap Uber ride away, yet things are still fairly quiet, especially at night. My parents who are in their 60s and 70s were very comfortable and slept like babies. Would definitely stay here again.

May 2017

Megan L
Great place as a getaway for two! We had a great time exploring close by- groceries, coffee, breakfast all within a few blocks! The restaurants and night life were walk able as well and King street shopping was a quick uber ride. We would definitely stay here again.

May 2017

Pam D
Pristine accommodations with excellent location for both convenience and quiet space, while close to our most important and favorite destinations in Charleston.

May 2017

Tom W
Mark’s place was in a really nice part of town. It was really easy to get ANYWHERE and the place was super cozy. Super easy to get to King street from there, but also other spots. It’s the perfect place to explore Charleston.

May 2017

Traecie J
Great location!

Updated interior. Nice place that is walkable to many areas of town. Bars and restaurants in close proximity.

May 2017

Meggan G
Great location. We walked to everywhere. Right next to a delightful bakery! Courtyard smelled of jasmine! Lovely!!

May 2017

Brandon P
Great place. Small, but exactly what was expected and needed for a 5 day trip. Location was extremely convenient.

May 2017

Alex L
Nice place, a bit of a walk from the downtown area but a great price. Would stay there again!

May 2017

Lars V
Great location in nice neighborhood. Nice mix of residential and hip/vibrant. We spent nights on the front porch.

April 2017

Cara F
This Airbnb was exactly what we were looking for. It was very clean and simple with comfy furniture. The best parts were the adorable backyard area and the Airbnb’s location. We were within walking distance of the restaurants and shops on King Street. The neighborhood was safe and quiet. Would definitely stay here again!

April 2017

James H
Great little place in the perfect location to explore the city. So walkable. A great value.

April 2017

Christina P
This was a great spot to stay in Charleston. It was very clean and cute. I did anticipate the space being small, but it was very small (making it difficult to get ready in front of the mirror in the bathroom). This would not stop me from staying there again however!

April 2017

David K
My stay at the 75D cottage was great. I spent four nights in late April here for a friends wedding, full disclosure, it was only me in the cottage. For me, the location was very enjoyable, I spent the entire stay walking everywhere. It is close to all the King Street (10 minute walk) and historic district (30 minute walk) attractions, but far enough removed that you can enjoy the patio and yard in peace if you want to relax. The surrounding neighborhood itself was very vibrant with shops and small restaurants that were very good. Mark provides you with a “Local’s” guide to the area, which points you in the direction of these places. The property itself was well-maintained and clean. The benefit of it being a smaller space is that the A/C can cool it down in a matter of minutes if you get overheated. The bathroom was clean and the shower pressure was more than sufficient. I would highly recommend Mark’s 75D cottage if you are staying in the area. I would stay there again myself, if I make it back to Charleston.

April 2017

Kristen W
Great stay, great location. Check in and check out was very easy. Mark was also very communicative. Highly recommend!

April 2017

Jane C
interesting location-walkable to downtown. Lovely outdoor seating area

April 2017

It is a beautiful cottage a short walk from all of the excitement. Small but what else do you need? Great quiet spot. Check out Bearded Cafe a block and a half west if you want a perfect espresso.

April 2017

Jenny M
Very nice and clean. Super private but a great location easy walking to tons of awesome food shopping and bars on King St. would definitely stay again!

April 2017

Luke B
Great location w parking spot

April 2017

Andrew E
This apartment is in a great location. The street it is on was quiet, but it was walking distance to a lot of great restaurants. Easy check-in and check-out. It’s cozy, but a fine size for two people. Overall an enjoyable stay.

April 2017

Millie C
Great location, centrally located. Set back from the road so you feel private and cozy but also in the heart of things. Small space but all you need, especially if you plan to be out and about.

April 2017

Wayne V
Nice place, just as advertised. Location was ideal. Easy check in-out. Communication with host was superb. Would stay there again.

April 2017

Daniela R
This is a tiny room with a big bed in it. It’s a great location off the beaten path, a quick uber ride from downtown and very pleasant to walk around.

April 2017

Alice G
We loved our visit to Charleston and this apt is well located. The wifi did not work which was a minor hassle and could not be resolved by a call to Mark or Andrew. the apartment is located above a lovely bakery but that means a very noisy commercial a/c system on the roof which makes the bedrooms noisy and the roof top not really conducive to use. The apartment is spacious and very clean.

April 2017

Kali A
It’s a very cute place in a great location. Bonus that there is a superb bakery right next door. Mark was very responsive to any questions we had.

April 2017

Lindsay B
Mark’s airbnb was a great location for a long weekend. Walking distance to great restaurants and a short uber ride away from downtown. I would recommend to any!

April 2017

Rob B
Great location.

April 2017

Nicholas K
I would highly recommend. It’s easy to walk to all the places you want to go but the actual location is quiet and quaint. Right next door to a pastry shop that is excellent too. We will stay here again.

April 2017

Meg K
I traveled to Charleston to celebrate my 30th birthday 3/31-4/3! We found the apartment to be immaculately clean and nicely decorated. It was within walking distance to many bars and restaurants, and Wild Flour Pastry next door was perfect for our morning coffees. The queen bed, and pillows!, was very comfortable, and it was wonderful to have space to spread out. We did notice that the walls are a little thin and we could hear outside street sounds, but this wasn’t too much of an issue. We would definitely stay here again!

April 2017

Eric Z
Great place even for its size. Great option for the bridge run!

April 2017

Jessica W
We had a great time and the host was very responsive. It’s a small space that’s well-appointed and walkable to quite a bit. Would stay again!

March 2017

Lisa B
Great place to stay on a budget. Mark and Andrew were very responsive to our questions.

March 2017

Tyler O
Great place, and perfect size for two people, but no more. Even though the apartment is a short walk to King Street’s best bars and restaurants, the surrounding area is relatively quiet. The off street parking is perfect for those looking to get outside of the city for daily adventures. Great location, nice apartment, and beautiful neighborhood.

March 2017

Eileen P
Nice space- large and cool rooftop terrace

March 2017

Heather M
My husband and I came to Charleston for the first time and it was excellent. The location is close to some delicious restaurants and very close to King St. The house was clean, provided many amenities, detailed instructions and most of all had parking. Parking is hard to come by in that area so the parking permit is a plus!

March 2017

Mike H
Great place.

March 2017

Samantha N
Very accurate description. Spacious bedrooms. Very clean. Very easy communication with Mark.

March 2017

Nick G
Phenomenal stay. Ideal base to explore the city. Would love to return.

March 2017

Okko G
Immaculate, spacious and very comfortable. Well appointed with ample towels and kitchenware. The only drawback was the wifi which I was unable to access, but the coffee shop downstairs proved to be a great workplace.

March 2017

Jacob S
We had a great stay here. Andrew was very helpful and always quick to respond. It was a very convenient location and an easy walk to King St and Wildflower Bakery was literally right next door. It was also nice that this unit was back off the road and it was quiet at night

March 2017

Erica H
Mark’s place was a lovely introduction to Charleston. Though we were expecting a bit larger of a place, the apartment turned out to be a fine size for my boyfriend and I. The location is also exceptional, as it’s a couple blocks away from one of the main streets in downtown (King St.) and there are numerous cafes, coffee shops, and smaller, more homey-feeling restaurants all within a few blocks radius in every direction of the apartment. Easy check-in and -out, as Mark provided us with a step-by-step guide on the apartment and the city a few days before our actual stay. The only thing you may want to consider is that it is the lower level of what seems to be a two-level house, so when there are people staying in the level above you, it’s a bit noisy. Despite that, it was a wonderful trip and we credit a lot of that to Mark’s accommodations..

March 2017

Jenn O
This house has a great location! Perfect for walking around the city. Lots of room for two people.

March 2017

James I
Exactly as advertised, spacious and clean rooms, amazing roof deck, walkable to hip restaurants (try The Ordinary on King), and the aroma of fresh baked goods from the first floor bakery all made for a great stay at this property.

March 2017

Rachael D
This room is exactly what it looks like and in the area described. We wanted to be a bit away from the King St chaos. This place was perfect and still walkable to everything. Mark is very responsive and accommodating. Highly recommend this room if you are on a budget and simply want a place to sleep/shower. Thanks again Mark!

March 2017

Bryce H
Location, Location, Location. This place is a great location and was walking distance to everything one would need.

March 2017

Liz R
My friend and I wanted to get away for a girls weekend! We had a blast in Charleston. Communication was great and it was easy to get around town. It was a great spot since we were out most of the day and cozy to come back to after our day out. There were restaurants in walking distance. Overall, great trip and great place to stay!

March 2017

John B
Place was great, host was attentive, the windows are a little thin and you can hear a lot outside, but everything else was outstanding.

March 2017

Sharon R
Good location. Was very quiet until the upstairs became occupied. Also parking very tight and the new occupants had an SUV and we no longer were able to maneuver our car into a parking space. It was recommended we park in the bigger lot a few doors down so that solved the issue. Over all enjoyed my stay.

March 2017

Naomi U
Great location – easy check in and very responsive host.

March 2017

Otis B
Great location for the price, and the local free shuttles are just around the corner. Would go again!

March 2017

Molly B
The house was a great size for our group

March 2017

Joshua D
Great spot! Very clean and comfortable. The parking directly in front of the unit is very difficult to get in and out of, but otherwise everything was great.

March 2017

Emily K
This was a perfect place for our stay! We loved being close to where we needed to be while in town for a wedding and it was still tucked away when we were ready to relax. Would definitely recommend and plan on staying there again when we come back to town again!

February 2017

Ryan L
We enjoyed our stay. Home was clean, comfortable and close to the King St area. Mark was accommodating too – was able to help us out with a last minute request.

February 2017

Nataliya B
Mark’s place is in the ideal location, walkable and near lots of restaurants and shops. It’s also very charming and quaint, and pretty quiet. The bed is also very comfortable!

February 2017

Rose B
My husband and I had a great 4-night stay. Location on Spring St was excellent. Walkable to everything, and cafe next door was tops. Mark, and his son Andrew, were super responsive and on top of it. Mark stopped by to say hello our first day. Larger than appears in photos – essentially full bottom floor of the house. Comfortable bed and large table in dining room to spread out at. Easy, safe entrance/exit, outdoor seating and parking.

February 2017

Jennifer B
Great place. Small but cozy. Great outdoor area that is secluded. Check in and out was easy. Parking is a plus. Also within walking distance to some cool eateries. Host was very informative. Only issue is that it can be noisy during sleeping hours but that is also just part of being in the down town area!

February 2017

Joanne D
Lovely outdoor private space in nice weather. Quiet neighborhood. Indoor space is a bit tight for two people.

February 2017

Susan H
This house is charming! Beautiful historic feel. The light fixtures are amazing. Layout was perfect for a father-daughter weekend. Walkable but with my 82-year old father we mainly drove or took an Uber. Free parking was a definite bonus. Next door boarded up house was a bit of a detraction. Overall great stay.

February 2017

Gabe C
This is a cozy and comfortable place just blocks from King Street and all of it’s great restaurants and bars and right next door to a nice pastry shop for morning coffee and pastries. Uber is a great way to reach farther points of interest, but Charleston is nice walkable place if the weather is great. This place is perfect for a weekend getaway and allows you to enjoy the many great things Charleston has to offer.

January 2017

Bettina L
Marks place was perfect ! It was so close to all the bars and restaurants on King street and the bed was very Comfortable . The only thing is that the space is very small! I didn’t mind because we were barely there, mostly wandering and exploring Charleston!

January 2017

Laureen N
Great place in a lively neighborhood. Liked the transitional mixed neighborhood feeling with college students and young professionals. Good basics kind of place. Everything was serviceable and keep and all of Charleston is walkable if one enjoys walking which I do.

January 2017

Paul B
What a great location. Spring St can appear busy and noisy but this little gem is located behind other buildings which block the traffic. If you want to walk and not drive stay here. Close to all the Upper King Street restaurants, shops, lounges, and all the other goodness. Walking to the touristy areas in the Market/ East Bay Area is less than a mile.

January 2017

Vic M
What an enjoyable experience! The home is clean and exactly as described. We felt like we were at home. The easiest of check-ins and check-outs, excellent communications from the host and great service during our stay. I would highly recommend this property and this host!

January 2017

Emily & Stephen P
The cottage was close to King Street and had quite a few restaurants nearby. There is a cute bakery next door–great sticky buns on Sunday. It’s close to the college campus, so lots of students around. Check in was simple and we met the owner when we first arrived. The cottage is very small (but accurately described in the photos and listing). The unit seemed to be humid inside even with air conditioning on–not something we expected in January.

January 2017

Jeanluc R
Nice appartment, nice spot, confortable with a cute little yard on the back. Well centered to go visit on any direction in the city.

January 2017

Rocio B
My boyfriend had a wonderful stay

January 2017

Michael V
It’s an updated and a modern interior. Its location is slightly removed from the street so that there is less noise. The neighborhood has a couple of very fun restaurants and options for drinks later on, as well as a nice market a short walk away. The public transit shuttle is only a ten minute walk away that can take you down King Street.

January 2017

Georgina N
Fantastic location and has all you need for a great getaway in Charleston!

January 2017

Liz B
Great place to stay for a trip to Charleston. I stayed with my fiancé and another couple, we had plenty of space and were very comfortable. The location is great, and all logistics were a breeze. I highly recommend staying here.

January 2017

Michael L
Everything was wonderful and accurate to the description of the property.

January 2017

Rachal L
Absolutely loved this place! Couple that came to Charleston to enjoy New Years. Perfect location and within walking distance of all of the great restaurants and bars. The place was also very spacious and clean. Next door was the most amazing bakery and coffee shop, going to miss that! Also, it felt very private with off street parking and fenced in back yard. Highly recommend and want to go back already.

January 2017

Noah C
This was the perfect location for us to stay. The courtyard was fun and the location was excellent. We were able to easily walk to the best places on King Street. Mark was kind and easy to work with. We would stay here again!

January 2017

Allison L
We (2 couples) traveled to Charleston to ring in the new year and Mark’s place was a perfect home to stay at! The location was great (we loved walking to Brown’s Court Bakery) and was as easy 5/10 min Uber ride into town when we didn’t want to walk. The street was a busy street (foot and car traffic), which weren’t used to but overall it wasn’t a problem. A week prior to our arrival, Mark gave us info about the apartment and the area, which made the self check-in very easy. The only thing that we didn’t give a full 5 stars for was that there was a bedroom not connected to the main apartment, which just made us a little confused when we arrived so I would suggest the description of the place should include that. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you!

January 2017

Kristen V
Super clean and very comfortable!!!

January 2017

Tina P
This was a cute little unit. Well appointed. Had everything you need for a short stay in Charleston. Walkable to lots of great spots. The walls seemed quite thin so not sure how comfortable it would be in cold weather. Only other critique is that the couch and bed were both pretty uncomfortable.

December 2016

Elizabeth N
The quarters are definitely tight, but location is just a short walk from King and there are plenty of nearby cafe, bars, restaurants, etc.. The outdoor space is very nice. The check-in was very easy and Mark & team provided all the needed info well in advance. Not the traditional Airbnb as it’s a set of rental properties not someone’s home, but we enjoyed our stay.

December 2016

Jonathan B
Much bigger than we were expecting from the photos. Amazingly clean, with a great bed. Parking was easy. Location was great. Easy walk to upper King St. and great restaurants, galleries and stores.

December 2016

Beth R
What a great house and location. The house has three bedrooms each with their own queen bed. Place is well decorated and spotless. Also great location to some of the best restaurants and a cute little bakery is right downstairs with fresh coffee and bake-goods. We had a fabulous time and hope to come back.

December 2016

Mira R
What a fantastic place–great location, full kitchen, outdoor space and very comfy beds. We traveled with two small kids–4 and 1–and found the place to be easily temporarily childproofed (gotta watch the little ones on the stairs, though). Having a parking lot was critical when we visited tourist sites that were more than a few miles away and didn’t want to spend a while circling the neighborhood for a parking spot. Wild Flour Bakery and Gnome Cafe were neighborhood favorites. Otherwise, we just walked the city. Special thanks to our hosts for delivering our portable crib on Christmas day!

December 2016

John A
This place was fantastic! My girlfriend and I stayed here for vacation and it was perfect. The location is great with very good restaurants within walking distance. The place was also very clean and well taken care of.

December 2016

Charlie B
The bed was a bit too soft for us, and there is not much privacy between the bathroom and the space. Great value and easy to walk around Charleston.

December 2016

Katherine H
This location was fantastic. We were close enough to all the action on King St(5 minute walk) but far enough away that our little cottage was quiet and peaceful at night. The cottage was so cute and comfortable. Perfect for a single person or couple looking for a relaxing spot in Charleston. Would return!

December 2016

Dee H
Fantastic location for everything! Be sure to Check out the locals hide away spots- those are the best!

December 2016

Justin D
This apartment was as described. Mark was very communicative, and provided great information about not only the apartment, but the neighborhood in general. Things travelers might want to know: The apartment is located a few blocks east of what appears to be the most northern part of King Street. While there is quite a bit to do in that area, it does mean your likely going to have to walk or Uber quite a bit to see the city. Also, the walk back from King to the apartment is not brightly lit (although there are street lights) and at night Spring St doesn’t have a ton of traffic. This gives the appearance of it being shady or sketchy, although we never had any issues. For the price of this apartment compared to a hotel further down King, I thought the slight loss of convenience was justified, but others may want to take that into consideration. Additionally, there doesn’t appear to be a free trolley anymore. A new bus system had taken its place, but the city hadn’t updated the map yet on the website, so I’m not sure if it stops close to the apartment anymore. We decided to walk everywhere, but if you’re hoping for nearby public transit, I’d research the new bus to see if it meets your needs. Finally, the apartment was pretty spacious for 2 people. It has a fridge and laundry. The wifi worked great and, if you care, the cable tv channels were adequate. Be aware it is a full size bed, and that it is a little on the stiff side. They are still working on the outside of the apartments (ours looked recently painted and the porch light wasn’t functional yet) but they appear close to completion. All in all a pleasant experience. We would definitely consider coming back here again if we are in Charleston.

Response from Mark:
Justin, Thank you for your detailed response. I just wanted to correct one thing, to avoid possible confusion, the bed in the apartment is a queen size, as is listed. Thank you as well for the notification for the free trolley, which looks to have changed websites recently, so we will get that updated information posted. We are very lucky to have the location we do, that has lots of great restaurants and shops to visit during the day, but remains a quiet neighborhood at night. Again I thank you for your insight, and hope that you return to Charleston in the future. Thanks, Andrew Stephenson

Everything was great! I booked for my parents and they were super happy with their stay.

Perfect location! Quick walk to King St and all the great restaurants, bars, and shopping. Also lots of little hidden gems tucked in around the neighborhood. And a bakery next door for coffee in the morning was lovely. Very clean, great size, unique and historic place. Exactly what my boyfriend and I needed for a week working and playing in Charleston. Mark was always quick to reply and very helpful.

Great location to everything! It was just what I was looking for, since it was convenient to downtown, walkable to King Street and had a nice decor.

Very cute place that was warm and welcoming. The location was very central and close to everything. We enjoyed our stay vey much and loved Charleston. The home is in a very safe neighborhood and has every thing necessary for a short stay.

Had a wonderful stay at mark’s place. The only negative thing I could possibly say is that is does get a bit humid inside, but coming from California where I have to use a humidifier every night it was kind of nice. The location is everything! Right near a ton of restaurants and bars. And the parking lot is huge, not like most apartment buildings downtown where you’re hoping someone else doesn’t hit your car. I loved the sitting area outside.. more like obsessed. Mark was great, I had an issue with my email where I wasn’t receiving his messages and he responded in a timely manner. From the time I landed at the airport, to before I arrived downtown he had resolved the issue. Would definitely stay here again.

Mark’s place was perfect for my wife and I on our first trip to Charelston. We had espresso and pastry each morning at the excellent little bakery- literally next door. It was close enough to downtown charelston, that it was a $5 Uber ride to dinner each night, but in a quiet enough spot that we slept great each night. The patio was a nice touch and we had wine on it several nights. Thank you Mark. We will definitely return on our next trip.

The house was exactly as described, clean and ready for our arrival. There was convenient off street parking and we were near enough to King St. to walk just about anywhere. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone visiting Charleston and plan to rent it again myself on future visits.

Cozy. Tucked away in back overlooking a nice garden, it feels secluded and domestic. Great coffee shop a couple doors down. A bit of street noise, but manageable.

Great place exactly as described. Great response time from owner with the questions we had. We would highly recommend this place and would stay again. Thank you.

A roomy house in a great location, just two blocks off King St where there are plenty of great restaurants and bars. Pastry bakery right next door was a nice surprise. Kitchen was a bit sparse on cooking utensils for our Thanksgiving meal, but I would stay here again with my family.

Great location – easy town to walk in, near delicious food (Dellz Uptown, Hominy Grill, Wildflour Bakery), super clean, with a full kitchen and plenty of amenities. Can be tricky to find from the street, but it’s wonderful! 🙂

Mark’s place was excellent and was in walking distance to central downtown area. The best was having a bakery 2 doors down to get fresh coffee and pastries every morning while people were still getting ready back at the house!

Amelia (Mia) L
Mark was an efficient and welcoming host. All of the information he provided was organized and accurate, making it easy to access the house and find our way around. The house itself is very comfortable. It was more than enough room for our group of 6 (3 couples) with room to spare! We pretty much walked to all of our Charleston activities and destinations from the house, the location within the city was ideal. I would highly recommend this house to large groups visiting this beautiful city!

November 2016

Jeff Huggins
Mark was very helpful during the booking process and before our stay. Only a few minor issues. Some renovation was going on so there was some noise and unsightly areas. Only the very basics were provided, like one towel per person and there was only 2 of us. There is a fire station nearby that can be annoying. Unit needed a few more window treatments for better privacy. The location is great. Walking distance to everything you need.

Mark’s little cottage was perfect for our stay in Charleston. I liked how upfront all the materials were about what would be available so we could plan ahead of time and bring what we might need. The space itself is small as he said, but the high ceilings and little touches keep it from feeling cramped — it’s truly cozy. When we rented a small space, we thought oh, we won’t be here that often — especially since the neighborhood is full of great restaurants, cafes, and bars — but we ended up staying in some nights, just relaxing on the little patio or inside. The shower temperature and pressure was nice, the A/C worked well, and the wifi was speedy. The space was very clean. The only hiccup was that a guest had left behind a few things which surprised me a little, but Mark was there right away, picked the items up, and was so welcoming. He gave us great recommendations for things to do in the area. We hope the cottage will be available the next time we come to Charleston!

Cozy little spot in a fantastic location – perfect for exploring Charleston for a few days. Lots of great eateries and bars within walking distance, and a cafe right out front for your morning coffee. Beautiful back yard to relax in. Recommended!

Fantastic place. Actually much bigger than you can tell from the pictures. It is so close to all the restaurants and the walking area. We had a wonderful time.

The space was clean, well appointed, and in a great location. Beds were comfy, the rooftop was fabulous and the central location made getting into and around Charleston a breeze. Would absolutely stay here again and recommend to others.

Cannot say enough about this location!! The area was absolutely perfect – close to King Street and downtown and the actual neighborhood was also superb. The unit was very clean and, though small, serviced most of our needs. Some odd things – we were only allotted two rolls of toilet paper, which seemed unnecessarily stingy. The checkout process was in no way clear (though checkin was), and the unit appeared to have no recycling, which really bothered me. The host was not present, which was fine for the most part, but some simple housekeeping things (like where to take the trash) needed to have been more clearly detailed. Overall, this was a great experience and we would stay here again, but some communication issues should be cleared up.

Devin Ohara
Marks place was clean, well kept, cozy and welcoming. It had all the basics for a long weekend get away. The size of the cottage was just as described. Mark was helpful and quick to respond when we a had question. The perfect location to King Street and the heart of Charleston- all in walking distance. We will definitely be back!!

This was my first Airbnb experience and I loved it! The Elliotborough/Cannonborough neighborhood in Charleston is wonderful. I will definitely book again!! The walking distance from the central hub of downtown is around 25 minutes but to be honest one could make an entire trip staying just in the neighborhood, Mark’s properties are located in. I only moved my car once to drive over to Mount Pleasant. We were able to walk everywhere else. There are amazing restaurants and eateries just a few blocks a way on Spring Street. If you haven’t guessed I am pretty passionate about food and so this rental was the perfect fit for me. Mark as a host, promptly responded and made check in and check out extremely smooth. He has literally thought of everything! We also ran into each other at the bakery next door and he was super nice, very friendly, laid back and welcoming. This property has a lovely backyard, which my pup greatly approved of. The banana trees are super cute and pepper the perimeter of the outdoor space. We loved it!

Small place but in a great area! Good for a couple for a short trip! Mark was very responsive.

This is a very well-kept, historic unit. Very functional and, though not immediately downtown, it is well-situated to explore. We explored a majority of Charleston on foot, but the free circulator bus is just down the street, so you easily can cut down on walking, if you wish. There is a bit of noise nearby, particularly in the morning, but if one is used to “city living”, that’s not a big concern. Definitely a place you’d want to stay!

Sean Larson
Great apartment for 2. Great location. Easy check in and check out. Easy to contact.

October 2016

Joanna Bakos
Mark was very responsive to all inquiries and sent a lovely welcome packet by email about nearby restaurants/coffee shops and attractions. This is a great location and was perfect for us to get to and make quick pit stops to change clothes/charge phones during the day. It is a great spot to stay if you are the kind of travelers who do not spend a lot of time in hotel rooms during a city visit. This is a first floor apartment, and we never felt unsafe in the area, though there is not much light when entering alley way and opening the door at night. Overall a wonderful stay, thanks so much!

This was a great little place in an awesome location – very walkable to restaurants and shops on King St and we had breakfast from the pastry shop EVERY morning, it was amazing. House itself was well cared for and had everything we needed. Thanks!

Andrew was great! He responded to us within an hour of getting our messages and overall did everything in his power to make our stay wonderful. Upon booking we received a detailed packet of the amenities, area and getting around Charleston. The cottage is perfect if you’re in Charleston to explore and just need a home base close to downtown at an affordable price. Although its cozy the high ceilings and chandelier really make it feel airy. The shower is great and clean, the bed is comfy and you’re a short walk from all the bars on Upper King.

The place was great! Small but cozy and plenty of amenities. Great location too! When we had questions they were very responsive. Overall great

Ricki Bergado
We had little communication with our host. We were provided with the key code to get in within the time frame that was promised. Everything was fine and we had no reason to contact him. The neighborhood was great. Coffee shops, restaurants and bakeries all within walking distance. We could also walk to the car rental place easily and catch a trolley if needed.

We wanted to be near the King Street area as we were in town for a wedding. This location was great and we walked a lot of times to our destinations. There were plenty of restaurants and clubs nearby that were also walkable. Our house was off street also which cut down on street traffic noise.

Great unit and location! The neighborhood is a really cool area with a lot to do. The unit is very nice has everything you need, love the feel to the whole place. Would stay here again.

Peter Biskaduros
We had a great time in our visit to Charleston. In the pictures, it looks as if one bedroom has a smaller trundle bed, but all 3 bedrooms have queen beds, and we felt the space was actually bigger than the pictures made it seem. The ONLY negative of the entire weekend was the limited wifi, we couldn’t use it for remote work (emails, shared docs, etc). Otherwise, the experience was fantastic. We walked everywhere we needed to be, the space was clean and comfortable, the coffee shop below was great, overall we loved everything (except the one) and would definitely come back to stay again.

Beautifully updated space. Very clean and comfortable. A little outside main historic area but we walked everywhere and loved it! Wonderful to have parking and very convenient to get out of town to beaches. We would definitely return and recommend this unit.

Andrew was very quick to respond to my questions about the neighborhood, restaurants and specifics about the house. The neighborhood is an eclectic mix of college students, homeowners and short term renters like ourselves. The college students were quiet and respectful of others even on weekend nights! Great restaurants are within walking distance of the home…..Hominy Grill, R Kitchen, Five loaves Cafe………shopping on King Street is a few blocks away…….ideal location!

October 2016

Jeff Wohlgamuth
Had a great experience at this place! Great location downtown to walk to bars and restaurants. A little farther walk to shopping but all in all a great location for what we traveled for. Mark was also a great host and very responsive to any questions or requests.

October 2016

Susan Coyne
Great place. Loved it. Would definitely stay again. Good location and easy and inexpensive to get anywhere via Uber from the apartment. Cute courtyard area. Good restaurants and small grocery stores nearby. This area is revitalizing, so there is some construction, but it did not pose a problem at all. Would also be interested in seeing some of the larger options in case we want to come back with friends!

October 2016

Stuart Kelty
Great location, an easy 30 minutes or less walk to anywhere you could possibly want. However, this stay was a lot different than many of my previous airbnb stays. There were none of the usual personal touches and be prepared for a list of things that are limited and prohibited (limited toilet paper/paper towles, extra fees if bath towles are used at the beach.) Also, extra linens and towles will only be provided for an extra fee. A slight musky smell did great us on arrival (a result of the humidity) but this was easily resolved with turning the air unit down. Overall, this place served it’s purpose well enough, but would recommend more for a short stay over an extended one.

October 2016

Izzy Driscoll
Fantastic location – close to great restaurants and just a quick Lyft ride to downtown. It was very cozy – the perfect hide away after long days of work. I will come back with my husband as I can see it would be the perfect getaway spot for a long weekend!

What Izzy loved about your listing:

Thanks for all of your help Andrew!

The location of this unit couldn’t have been better! We easily walked to King Street and caught the trolley nearby. It was great to have a parking spot. The unit was clean and comfortable for two!

The place was really lovely, exactly like the pictures. We were a group of 6 women celebrating a special birthday.. so we enjoyed being able to sit in the living room or in the dining room and chat. The beds were very comfortable. There were only 1 issues the plumbing in one of the showers was reversed, hot was cold, cold was hot and we didnt realize it so some of us took cold showers day one.. when we called, it was explained and we were told it would be fixed after we left. It would have been helpful if they told us that up front. Other than that, it was great. We could walk to some restaurants and it was really convenient to all major roads etc. Lovely home. would highly recommend it.

Overall a good place to stay while visiting Historic Charleston. We had 4 adults in our group, and everyone was comfortable. AC worked well, which we all appreciated. And the proximity of the bakery next door made breakfast a snap.

Greg Stachelek
My wife and I loved the convenience of staying in Mark’s cottage on Spring Street during our vacation in Charleston. The location was great, offering easy access to most areas of the city without being constantly subjected to the crush of lower King Street. Everything was clean and well-prepared for our stay, and the self check-in/check-out made planning much easier. We would certainly stay there again!

We had a wonderful stay at Karples View. Great location for Charleston it was a quick walk to bars and restaurants on King Street. The place is even nicer than the pictures. Had concern so I called and Mark answered immediately. Highly recommend this apartment for anyone looking for a place to stay in Charleston.

After arriving and unloading vehicle, Mark arrived and introduced himself. He was very informative and gave history of house and neighborhood. Very pleasant and attentive in answering initial questions since it was Our 1st trip to the city…..Thanks Marc. The apartment was described accurately and had many wonderful characteristics of a 125 year old house. Definitely Reccommend .

Danny Blood
This was a great place to stay and excellent value. It’s a cool set of places that have been renovated. The house has everything you need and is located in a cool up and coming neighborhood. It’s walking distance to the heart of downtown plus the trolley comes right down the street. We were in Charleston to see the town, eat the food, and experience the culture. We didn’t spend a lot of time in the house, but it is well appointed.

September 2016

Lauren DiBiase
This was a great place for us to use as a home base as we explored beautiful Charleston. The listing was extremely accurate – if anything, the apartment was even bigger than it looked from photos. We appreciated having 2 large bathrooms (plus a small half bathroom) so all the ladies had more than enough space to get ready. We mistakenly thought there was no hot water in one shower and the host immediately checked it out and responded to us. The location was perfect for being able to walk to restaurants/bars on King Street. Check-in and check-out were extremely easy. Would recommend this place without hesitation to groups.

September 2016

George Sumberaz
Mark and Andrew did so much to help us during our stay. We originally had an issue getting into the unit but as Andrew showed us the error of our ways, we were quickly in and settled. We were within driving distance of downtown Charleston and from there were did much of the walking.

Elizabeth Curran Boody
I was in town for a conference and was glad to find Small’s Alley in such a convenient location that was not too far off the beaten path and still very lively. The apartment was very comfortable and relaxing. Can’t wait to visit Charleston for non-work reasons.

Taryn Leverton
We were sent a lot of information about Charleston including the schedule and nearest pick-up for the free trolley. The house was perfect for what we needed and walking distance to shops, restaurants, and bars on King Street. We really enjoyed the outdoor patio area and the privacy.

Gregory Kelly
The Karples View apartment was the perfect way to experience Charleston. Great for a couple traveling together, this clean, spacious, amenity-filled apartment was fantastic for me and my wife to come back to at the end of a long day of sightseeing and sampling the local cuisine (which is amazing). Located just a few blocks from King Street, everything you could possibly want is within walking distance. I would highly recommend this listing and feel confident that Mark’s other listings are amazing as well.

Alison Corcoran
Overall our stay at 65A Smalls Alley was good and the property was as described in the listing. The location is great for walking around downtown and it’s close to many fantastic restaurants. One issue that we had during the first night of our stay was a moldy/musty smell coming from the wall AC unit, but help was sent right away to fix the situation and the unit was cleaned so that by night #2 the smell was mostly gone. Mark and his team were very communicative and helpful throughout our stay.

Mark and his son were very hospitable and their property was clean and cozy. We loved our stay at this tiny Charleston cottage. The modern renovations mixed with vintage charm set a cozy, picturesque backdrop for our visit. The bed was very comfortable, the unit was clean and the door code system allowed us flexibility with check-in and out. The high ceilings and pretty chandelier made the space feel airy despite the tiny footprint. We also really loved the neighborhood, with a nearby hidden restaurant called Chez Nous being one of the highlights of our trip. The host also sent a thorough pdf with neighborhood information that helped us feel like locals.

The location of this cozy apartment cannot be beat! It’s walking distance to many of the places that you’ll want to see in the city. The only issue we had was that the wifi signal was very weak, I’m sure Mark will look into this.

What Sarah loved about your listing:
I loved the location of this place.

What Sarah thought you could improve about the experience:
The wifi didn’t work for us, which was problematic. It might be nice if body wash is provided in the future, as most people only carry shampoo/conditioner with them.

 Amenities feedback:
Wifi didn’t work for us.

Geoffrey

The Location was great. The apartment is right in downtown Charleston’s Elliotborough neighborhood. There are great Restaurants all around and it is easily walkable to the rest of downtown. Having stayed in a few Airbnb’s in the past this was much more like a hotel than any Airbnb I have experienced. The apartment is the bottom apartment and it looks like a garage and kind of feels like a garage. We never met our host but he was very accommodating via text messages and email. Mark had a great packet of things to do and great a list restaurants that we found very helpful. All-in-all the place was nice and I would consider staying there again based on location and privacy.

What Geoffrey loved about your listing:
Great Location Very private

What Geoffrey thought you could improve about the experience:
The description was a little misleading that it is the basement apartment. We enjoyed our stay, but the apartment in particular lacked personality. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your apartment.

Beth

Although we never met our host Mark, he was a pleasure to deal with – he replied to emails instantly, answered questions truthfully and even provided a lovely guide to Charleston for us to print out. The accommodations were very tiny (we knew that when we rented) but quite cozy. The bed was SO comfortable with really soft linens and quilts, and it was very quiet at night so my husband and I slept well. We had a rental car so having a parking spot was a big plus. Location was very good — nice neighborhood walkable to lots of places to eat including the famous Hominy Grill just around the corner, and a short ride to downtown. The yard out back would be a nice place to eat a takeout lunch but it was cold during our visit. This was a very satisfactory place for a four-day get away for one or two persons. It is probably important to note for some folks, that the super-comfy bed, is not very large (a double, not a queen) so might not be good for a very large gentleman or those who need a lot of room in bed but it was fine for us. Only other drawback – I probably would not recommend for a long stay due to size, no closet or much space to put away clothes or layout toiletries but for a short stay it was just great …clean, comfy, cozy and well-located.

What Beth loved about your listing:
We loved the bed! Although smaller than our bed at home, the mattress and linens were so comfortable. Loved to go back to the cottage and sink in under the covers at night!

Lance & Amy

A clean space in a wonderful location. WildFlour Pastry, right next door, was a group favorite as were Artisan Meat Share, just a block up the street, and Apartment A Nachos & Tamales, just around the corner. Mark was a timely and clear communicator and we had no trouble finding or getting into the house. The only things that might not make the space for everyone are that it is not in the heart of the touristy district (a bonus, in my opinion) and that it appears to be run by a property management firm, as opposed to what I think of as the more typical Airbnb experience, where you’re staying in a space that the property owner lives at/near, maintains him/herself, and operates as a hobby or side gig as opposed to doing so for a living. For that reason it doesn’t have the same feeling of warmth and welcome as some Airbnb’s but if you are looking for something clean, comfortable, and in an incredible off-the-beaten-path location, look no further.

The house was beautifully furnished and in a fun, funky neighborhood. We enjoyed eating out at some of the restaurants in the neighborhood, and it was easy to walk from the house to public trolley transport. A highlight for my kids was eating muffins from the local bakery, Wild Flour. Mark, our host, provided some good advice on where to go and what to see.

What Sarah loved about your listing:
I loved the furnishings in the house which added to the experience of delving into Charleston’s history. The house was large enough to accommodate our party of seven people.

What Sarah thought you could improve about the experience:
The kitchen was missing a few items that would be inexpensive to purchase and would greatly enhance a visit: a colander, salad bowl, and a frying pan with a handle. Also you might include an inexpensive seventh chair in the dining room for groups of seven.

 Arrival feedback:
My in-laws didn’t have the right code to access the apartment, but Mark quickly stepped in to help them.

We traveled to Charleston with 2 other couples and found this residence to be perfect for us! The location is great – just a few minutes walk to King Street and with several other local spots nearby. The bedrooms were all spacious, and the beds were incredibly comfortable! The fans in the room were also appreciated. The kitchen was a nice size – we brought some of our own food that had been prepped beforehand, but the counter space allowed for easy final assembly. I’d say the only downside is the living room space was a bit tight to fit all six of us with the chairs provided, but it was definitely not a deal breaker. Also, we had a bit of trouble with the door lock system upon arrival, but Mark was quick to answer his phone (at 10:30 pm) and help us get inside, which we really appreciated. Other than that, no problems, and we would go back!

What Courtney loved about your listing:
Everything was quite comfortable! We appreciated your quick response to our late night inquiry about getting inside. It was a perfect spot for us!

We had a great time at 69A Elliott House! Beds were SUPER comfortable and the three bedrooms made it very spacious for our group. We found it to be well situated to a lot of our dining choices on King Street – and we LOVED the coffee and danish place next door! Highly recommend!

What Robin loved about your listing:
Super cute and comfy but there were a few things that could be improved on. Porch was nice to sit out on!

What Robin thought you could improve about the experience:
Toilet in downstairs bath has too short of a chain in the tank so it gets hung up a lot and won’t flush. Many lightbulbs were burned out. Another nightstand and bedside lamp in downstairs bedroom would be nice so both people can read. More chairs in main room. But, you probably rent it fine without ANY of this stuff but at least the toilet and the bulbs!

 Amenities feedback:
More lamps, more dishes. You DO have coffee there. MORE DISH TOWELS, you only have one!

 Value feedback:
Just add more amenities.

We enjoyed our stay at Mark’s unit. The apartment was clean and as described there were dishes and a small kitchen for us to use, which was very helpful for us to make breakfast in the mornings. We did have some trouble with the door lock when we arrived, but Mark was available when we called and helped us sort everything out in very short order. As mentioned, there was a trolley that we saw driving in the area, but we chose to walk every where; it was great to park our car for the weekend and not use it again until we left town.

Mark was great – very prompt on email and answered all of our questions that we asked. We loved the house and the location for us was ideal and easy to get around. A true gem in the city.

What Michelle loved about your listing:
thanks for everything we had a great time.

What Michelle thought you could improve about the experience:
I would buy or add a Cookie Sheet or baking pan – there really is nothing to bake on or use in the oven and that proved to be an issue for us, lol good thing my kids are creative

Charleston is a beautiful city and Mark has created a unique “compound” of adjacent and nearby properties. I have to compliment him for his communication and kind help prior to our arrival. Our stay was in one of his ‘historic’ homes and, as one might expect, there were lots of quirks (some might call them charms). The issues we didn’t expect and feel others may want to know about are 1) the bathroom is located away from the bedrooms so if you get up at night it can be a bit hazardous to walk through the living room and small eating area and kitchen and laundry area to get to it, 2) it was warm during our stay and the air conditioning was locked and couldn’t be set below a certain temperature… the temp was fine but we couldn’t get the humidity out of the air, 3) the kitchen table was useless as the floor is slanted and then the table tilts even more! The location is good because it’s a short walk to upper King Street, however this is where the college kids stay so it can be loud at night and we encountered two people asking for money during our first night’s walk over. Seemed safe enough for the transit, but it wasn’t a neighborhood we felt like we wanted to explore. There’s off-street parking for Mark’s properties which is great.

A nice little room in a great part of town. A little expensive for what you get. Bring extra towels if you stay for more than a night as the host only provides one for your entire stay.

Mark was helpful with a great city guide that he put together. The Elliot House is in a great location, clean and well kept. It was the perfect fit for my family’s Thanksgiving get away. We will be back again in the future.

What Devin loved about your listing:
We loved the location. Hip area with great restaurants and night life. Five Loaves restaurant is a must stop for healthy and delicious viddles.

What Devin thought you could improve about the experience:
An additional chair in the living area would be nice for groups of 6 so all can sit together in the living room. The lighting in the living room and kitchen could be improved. Minor stuff.

 Arrival feedback:
Additional parking pass not in room as was told it would be.

Our place was perfect – small & quaint, but just what we needed and in the perfect location. The backyard is definitely the best part – but we didn’t get to enjoy it due to the rain. There are a lot of good spots in walking distance and its easy to get an Uber if you need to go further. I would definitely stay here again when visiting Charleston.

What Melissa loved about your listing:
The location and the backyard area.

What Melissa thought you could improve about the experience:
The only complaint I have is that the Dial hand soap at the bathroom sink was water down. Other than that, everything was great!

We really enjoyed our stay. The location is very close to all of the nightlife on Upper King and isn’t too far of a walk to the sights of downtown Charleston. The weather was unseasonably hot so the unit did get a little warm, but it was probably due to our inability to get the ac unit to stay on. The apartment is perfect for two! We hope to return in the near future. Thank you!

Mark’s place was clean, the bed ridiculously comfortable, and a short walk from King Street and the downtown. He was helpful and communicated well.

     Private Feedback:
My only complaint is the Wi-Fi never really worked. I would get a signal but it almost always dropped. Maybe a range extender would be a good idea.

The cottage was very cute, and had lots of nice character, including a little chandelier. It was located in a lovely backyard with lush banana trees. It was well-cleaned and perfect for what I was looking for. Mark was responded quickly to all of my questions.

Mark was great with communication – he emailed us before we arrived with all the details and also a local guide. Easy self check-in and out in a great location. Perfect base for exploring Charleston and other surrounding islands. There are some great eateries within very close proximity. Really useful having the car parking space as quite difficult to find parking in Charleston. As others and description have said, it’s very small – basically a hotel room – and personally I think great for a long weekend but we found it quite small and restrictive for 5 days. There is a fridge and some cutlery but no plates/bowls or cups which would have been appreciated to make a cup of tea or coffee. Overall a great place but a little worn around the edges – i.e broken blinds, very noisy AC. That said, would definitely recommend for a 2-3 night stay.

I had expected some kind of welcome gift-something that represented Charleston. A lovely magnolia on the table, for example. There was a laminated list of strict rules instead. My parents arrived first at the house and I received a text from them that the neighborhood was clearly the rundown area of the city. I was disappointed to not know that I was near North King Street, as opposed to somewhere lower, closer to the nice part of town. I feel the neighborhood I stayed in is 3 or 4 years away of being spectacular. This should be noted and priced accordingly. The historic alley is where the college kids live, hence the noise we heard Saturday night. The jack hammer directly outside our door started on Tuesday morning and was completely unbearable. I will say that upon walking the neighborhood, we would come upon a lovely restaurant or shop that seemed out of place. But it was a relief to the unpleasant surroundings. In additon, I had told Mark that we’d have a dog with us, and there was no nice park to walk her, sadly. My parents are elderly and the far walks to the tour, the museum, the good restaurants, the good shopping, became tiresome for them. I don’t think this area and this house is for a first time Charleston visitor.

    Mark

    Response from Mark:
Kelly, I am proud to work and live in Elliotborough this is a great locals area of downtown Charleston and from the 100’s of reviews on all my property’s everyone is pleased with the location, prices and the benefits of being a few steps away from the tourist areas. Thanks for your review, Mark

We enjoyed the carriage house – it was clean, charming, and well-appointed. It had a lot of character and it was more fun to stay here for a long girls’ weekend than in a hotel. The pictures in the listing provide an accurate representation of the property. The directions & instructions provided were clear and accurate, and the property website contained helpful information. (e.g., the free trolley) As noted on the site, there is a free trolley line very close by. I would recommend using the trolley if you have trouble walking long distances. If walking is not a concern, I would recommend walking from the house to the shopping area (King St.) on foot – there are lots of interesting stores and restaurants to discover along the way. Mark was very responsive to our concerns during the heavy rains/flooding in early October.

This was a great quick stay. Ease of getting in and out. Perfect location for us. Close to great restaurants.off street parking is key, thank goodness they provided it. Rooms were small but relative to the cost we paid. Bathroom was tight, but served its purpose. Wish the tv ‘arm’ stretched to watch tv in bed. Good stay.

     Private Feedback:
Quick response! Discounted price close to booking Nothing really.

This is a self checkin room, but this was communicated up front and everything when smoothly. Mark communicated thoroughly. One note the carriage house could be difficult for some to located. We had to circle the street several times to locate the access driveway. The carriage house is located behind the front house. Please be aware the parking is extremely tight for two large cars would represent a challenge. Also we had the downstairs unit and could hear the activities of the upstairs guest. On the plus side the unit was clean and had a good layout. This transition neighborhood location is very good with easy access to King Street and the core of Charleston.

    Mark

    Response from Mark:
Jeff I’m glad you had a wonderful time and the great review. In both the Confirmation and Welcome email there is a link to the location, it is very important to review these prior to leaving home to become familiar because several units are not on the street but interior addresses. Please come visit again! Mark

What Jeff loved about your listing:
    Location

What Jeff thought you could improve about the experience:
Provide better access directions and control the size of the cars parking in this extremely tight area. We had a stretch pickup that blocked our egress.

     Accuracy feedback:
Be clear that the downstairs unit will hear noise from the upstairs unit.

What Ashley loved about your listing:

    Cassondr

Smalls Alley was a great place to stay. The studio apartment was clean and was just as described. It is only a short walk away from King Street and many of the downtown attractions. We loved the fact that there was parking included. One thing to know though is that the parking space is small and when two cars try to park in the area it can be a pretty tight squeeze. I would suggestion driving a smaller car if possible. We also enjoyed the DVD player and internet access for late night movies. Mark was a great host. He responded quickly to emails and was very helpful. I would recommend the place to anyone.

What Cassondra loved about your listing:
I loved the location and that there was parking. I appreciated the dvd player for late night movies. I noticed that the picture in the bathroom was for October and thought that is was cute that it matched the month. Thanks for being so quick to respond to our questions and help with issues that came up.

What Cassondra thought you could improve about the experience:
You might want to warn people about the small parking. The other car that was parking there was a rather large truck. This made it difficult and sometimes impossible to park. We had to go and ask the owner of the truck to re-park the truck so that there was room for both vehicles. Also the internet never really seemed to work on the smalls alley network. We could never pull up actual apartments network and other only other option you sent us was so week that it wasn’t worth logging into. I was able to use the xfinity hotspot which had great signal (the best on the list). You may want to check into that for those guest you don’t have xfinity credentials.

     Accuracy feedback:
It would have been useful to know about the small driveway.

  • Amanda

    Amanda

We loved everything about our stay – the cottage is quaint and just as Mark described; the location is ideal, as some of the city’s best restaurants are walking distance away; the Sunday cinnamon rolls at Wildflower Pastry next door are worth the trip alone; and the free trolley stops nearby and takes you south to the tourist sites. I definitely recommend staying at Mark’s if you need a perfect home away from home in Charleston!

What Amanda thought you could improve about the experience:
Mark, it took us a day to realize that the “cool” function on the air conditioning did not remove the humidity from the air. You have to switch it to “dry” mode. That would be helpful to future guests, as I’d never encountered that before! Otherwise, a perfect visit. Thank you!

The unit is in great condition, clean, and close to the King St which is the major street with shops. There is also a coffee shop, taco joint, crepe place 1 street away, and an excellent breakfast place called Hominy Grill which is 5 mins away. In the unit there is a bedroom & bathroom on the first floor, and 2 bedrooms upstairs. Keyless entry allows everyone in the group to enter & exit without worrying about who has the key. For this unit, the bedroom on the first floor is next to the street so it will be a bit noisier at night. Mark was out of town, but called to check if everything was ok.

What George loved about your listing:
Good location, clean unit, and spacious.

What George thought you could improve about the experience:
Luckily we arrived to the unit a little early and the cleaning people let us in. It took us a little bit to figure out that the code you gave us was wrong. The cleaner doesn’t speak english, but again we were lucky that her child was able to translate for us and give us the new code. In the future, if you’re going to be out of town or without cell reception please make sure that you designate someone who is “on-call”. Otherwise, a good experience.

We enjoyed our stay at 79B Victorian Garden Apt 2. It was easy to check in using the key code Mark provided. The apartment was clean and in decent shape, the beds were very comfortable, the linens were nice and fresh, and everything in the kitchen worked reasonably well. This is a historic property, so be prepared for the quirks of an old house. But we loved the proximity to everything we wanted to do in Charleston, and to the excellent restaurants and cafés of the neighborhood. We would recommend the place to friends.

What Julie loved about your listing:
Location Good light Comfortable beds Well equipped kitchen Good climate control Old Charleston character Convenience of parking

This place was great. The listing was a perfect representation of the house. We wound up staying during the hurricane and flooding, but this house was HQ for our group. We didn’t have a chance to explore and walk around as much as we’d like, but there seemed to be plenty around this house a few blocks away. Most smaller restaurants and shops were closed due to the weather, but there were plenty of food options within a block or two and the main strips were a close walk. Mark was awesome as well. Very responsive and helpful. The original reservation papers noted 67 as the house number when it was actually 69, but that was the only hiccup, and a very minor one. Highly recommend!

What Nathan loved about your listing:
The keypad was great. I could easily distribute to everyone in our group and we didn’t have to worry about losing keys.

What Nathan thought you could improve about the experience:
Make sure the listing house number is accurate, but thats about it. We loved it.

Never saw or talked with host as he was out of town. Easy to follow instructions got us parked on the property and into the little room. My wife and I enjoyed the three day stay. We never moved the car. Great places to eat and several bars within five minutes walk. Downtown and waterfront no more than 20 minutes. Great location made up for the small size of the accomadation. Little patio in the private back yard was great for a cocktail in the late afternoon. We would return again and would like to meet Mark. Sam and Kim Smith

      Response from Mark:

A great house in a great location. We walked everywhere, and we found some fabulous restaurants very close. There was some street noise from the neighbors at night… future renters might want to put light sleepers in the interior bedroom.

      Shanley

Mark was a great host. The listing was exactly as presented online. The neighborhood was great and very convenient for being close to the downtown area. There were some great restaurants within a block or two and even more about a 10 – 15 minute walk. Mark even gave us some personal recommendations which were awesome and very helpful. I would definitely recommend this place and Mark!

What Shanley loved about your listing:
      convenient, great porch, very clean

What Shanley thought you could improve about the experience:
the only one minor thing I can say is we couldn’t figure out how to adjust the thermostat to make it a little warmer. But I never reached out about it and I’d much rather be a little chilly than sweating! So no real improvements necessary.

       Communication feedback:
I reached out via Airbnb a few weeks before the stay and didn’t hear back, but once I called Mark everything was great. I think maybe he was getting my notes on Airbnb.

      Carla

I have very high expectations on where I stay. I specifically use airbnb because I hate hotels. I felt as those the apartment could use some sprucing up. The couch is a mess. It was dirty and if two people sit on it and one gets up the other side moves like a see saw. The walls were repaired in the bathroom and had not been painted where repaired and the same thing by the door to enter the bathroom. It could really use some sprucing up. This felt like a college dorm rather than a place where I want to stay with my husband. Also the driveway is very narrow and you may want to let people know ahead of time. In our case we had a very big vehicle and it was difficult getting in and out of the driveway.

      Mark

      Response from Mark:
I don’t really know how to respond since all my other reviews give it high marks, the couch is new this season. I take all my customer comments serious and will go through the unit and make sure its up to standard. Lets also mention that it rained the quite a lot this weekend which may have made your trip gloomy. Thanks, Mark

What Carla loved about your listing:
Hi Mark, I really loved the fact that the unit was so close to the heart of Charleston. We walked everywhere and that was really important to me and my husband.

We came down for a long weekend, and this spot was perfect. Great loft apartment in an up and coming neighborhood very close to upper King Street. There are a number of great restaurants, bars and bakeries close by, and we walked most of the weekend – even to the heart of the city. Apartment was very clean, as advertised. Very quiet spot, we felt comfortable and safe in the neighborhood walking around at night.

What Deb loved about your listing:

Mark greeted me at the door and gave some good recommendations for the neighborhood. The house was furnished well and the beds were very comfortable. We are so glad our daughter found this house for us. It was accurately described in the details and more. A very comfortable house, beds etc. After a few minor housekeeping issues they were seen to straightaway. Mark was a very friendly host and had time for us. It was the perfect house for our wedding party. The location was great too.
